Wow! Who knew that a fantasy about a bureaucrat could be so riveting? After reading some while, I noticed the curious sensation of getting excited without having to brace for violence. The story is layered in so many rich details, so original and believable. I love that the principal culture was Polynesian wayfinders. My only niggling complaint was that it was heavily gendered.
