First of all, I would highly recommend checking out all the TW before beginning this book.

Ava Reid's prose is beautiful and transported me immediately into this dark fairytale world. The writing was so lovely and the vibes were hitting that perfect fairytale tone despite the content being so grim.
I was not very familiar with The Juniper Tree, which is the tale this book is based on, but that was not an issue at all. I highly enjoyed this retelling, and if you're looking for something dark, gothic and in the twisted you would probably enjoy this book. Be minded that this book is very much vibes-based and that all in all not much happens at all.

I understand that some people may find Marlinchen difficult to like, but her relationship with Sevas and how they choose each other is so much more than "princess gets saved by prince charming". Sevas is not the romantic fantasy we've come to expect in fairytales, and I really enjoyed the ending. Bonus points for magic intersects with industry plot points, I love those 🌟
