The Christmas Chronicles by Nigel Slater

3.0

I like Nigel Slater, but this is a looooong book. A true tome. A compendium. At spots it reads a little like a How To Christmas book with a target audience of aliens from outer space, such minute detail does he provide on the commonplaces of the season. (Put the lights on the tree before the ornaments, he instructs us, for example.)

For all that, though, it's an undeniably cozy and satisfying book. I especially appreciate that he brings us all the way through January with it. I feel like January's food, in reaction to December's excesses, is really just as vital and traditional as anything else.
