I did enjoy the book overall but there's a couple reasons this gets a solid 4. It's a difficult book to rate, especially because of one spoiler that changes a good portion of the book I'd already read.

The world building could have been stronger and certain characters felt underdeveloped. Not a huge deal because I still found the story interesting and enjoyed the main characters... till the 'twist.'

So. sigh Ravi/Wyatt. This plot would have worked for a fanfic where we knew Ravi beforehand, it doesn't work well in a book where we don't see Ravi's good side before his 'death.' We only see him being a dick to Dee and then he 'dies.' I did wonder if we were getting an And Then There Were None storyline, but I didn't think he was Wyatt. There were a few foreshadowing elements that make more sense after the reveal; I was thinking of something completely different for them.

I liked 'Wyatt' well enough and I enjoyed the budding relationship between him and Dee, gathering their grief together, accepting someone new into their heart, and then that was all a lie. Idk it was... disappointing? Ravi is complicated and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

I enjoyed Grasshopper and Dees friendship. Grasshopper was great, and thankfully not annoying (like so many kid characters are in adult books). I almost dnf at first because Dee was annoying but Dee quickly grew on me. Despite its issues, I've rated this higher because it was fun to read.

Last note. Others have mentioned this should have been tagged as YA but as someone who has read too many adult books with characters in their upper 20s to late 30s who read like teenagers, this book could have been much worse on that point so I disagree.
