The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

5.0

I'm not crying. You're crying.

The book thief is a girl Death meets 3 times before its her time to be collected. WWII is brewing in Nazi Germany and Death's about to get a whole lot busier but he can't help to pause and learn from this book thief.

Though it took me quite a while to get invested in this book, once I was hooked I was devastatingly devoured by its raw love for the written and spoken word.

Words are freeing and once they are restricted we become prisoners. Our protagonist learns this very quickly when we meet her young and lliterate until she becomes an older child, possibly a preteen (I can't exactly remember the age) and then thrown into the secrecy and fear of Nazi Germany's reign on her town, especially when her adoptive parents begin to harbor a Jewish man.

Just read this book. Cry for this book. Love this book. Be thankful that we have words and treat everyone with kindness.
