Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld

I am in awe of Curtis Sittenfeld's ability to take truly hard things and write about them in a way that therapeutically unpacks them for a mass audience.

RODHAM helped me work out so much 2016 post-election trauma - I can look at her picture again without tears!

Similarly, she minutely examines imposter syndrome and the inner workings of intense anxiety in ROMANTIC COMEDY in a way that is relatable and illuminating. Reading thru descriptions of how the main character can trainwreck a budding relationship with one ill-timed comment again and again, I felt this book very sweetly take my hand and lead me through some tough emotional landmines with grace and hope. Sittenfeld's descriptions so accurately take the reader thru the mental machinations of someone very capable of self-sabotage, but you root for her characters so hard to find a path forward, and the payoffs with her stories are always so lovely.
