Ruin My Life
by Luna Pierce
Luna's ability to write amazing why choose romance novels is unparalleled. In particular, I was struck by the captivating relationships between Cora and the three MMCs. The way the relationship between the four of them was built, and how we got to know all of the characters better and better throughout the story, was brilliant to see. While the guys are all different, they are also the same in the way they care about Cora - even in the beginning, where there is nothing between them yet, they would give anything just to keep her safe and see her happy. They are all alphas, yet confident enough to share. While I wouldn't say the story is particularly dark, I would definitely suggest reading the trigger warnings before diving in. Cora is dealing with some serious issues, and her character development throughout the book is huge - she really lives through all of the highs and lows. That constant voice in her head, telling her that it was all her fault and that she deserved what happened, was heartbreaking to see. I'm so glad Luna touched on such a sensitive topic, because anyone who has suffered from the same things that Cora has needs to hear that it's okay to not be okay, and most importantly, that it was not their fault. Luna's writing was sensitive and thoughtful, shedding light on a topic that needs attention. Sometimes the story takes turns quickly, which can be a little confusing, but it was great to see the other characters from the previous books as well (side note: this book is a standalone, but takes place in the same world as the other two in the series). I read this one first, before the others, and I can confirm that you don't have to read them before starting 'The Ruin My Life.' However, after seeing the other guys in this book, I'm definitely going to read the other two as soon as I can. I was eyeing them for a long time, and now I'm hooked - I need more!
