This is the first Sherlock Holmes book I've bought or even just attempted to read. I was unaware before beginning it a little while after buying it that it was a collection of cases condensed into one chapter sads for the first half of the book, and then the classic Hound of the Baskervilles story for the second half. The majority of one-chapter cases felt so kind of rushed and wordy that I did not enjoy most of the first half of the book. The Hound of the Baskervilles saved the book a bit for me. I didn't love it, but it was much easier to read, much better paced, and had more room for intrigue and false leads and the like that you would expect from a mystery. I don't know if I'll read anymore Sherlock Holmes stories, at least not for quite some time. However, if I do, I'll be sure to get books that are your typical multi-chaptered narrative.
