A Gentleman in Moscow
by Amor Towles
I found the Count delightful. So charming. He really had a way with little girls—not creepy—in a favorite uncle sort of way. The literary references made me want to go read all those books again—and add the ones I haven’t yet read—and then reread this one so I could experience what he saw. And I definitely need to watch Casablanca again.
But I think my favorite moment was when Anna asked him what got his goat and he replied, “My goat is not gotten!” Luckily I was sitting in my parked car when this happened bc I was definitely laughing too hard to see the road had I been driving.
Oh and the Triumvirate! And the key! And the service stairs! And the study! And Zoot! (Forgive me if this is not spelled correctly—audio does that.) Just so many details to tickle the imagination.
Even the chapter titles—go look at them if, like me, you normally don’t pay attention.
