I cannot believe this is by the same author of the Spademan series. This book is so much more nuanced and clearly is the author's masterwork.

My first thought when I tucked in to this novel was that I came for a thriller, not a mirror. Relationship counseling, a miraculously pregnancy after being labeled infertile by doctors, fighting together against all odds in the world, and so much more just hits harder when you've fought for your relationship and have a miracle-son. That said, given that the Spademan novels also focused around a mother with a secret-then-revealed pregnancy who fights hard for the best outcomes for her child, I have to wonder if the author is working something out for himself on the written page.

The Edenic Foundation couple were clearly modeled on The Gottmans.

The book opens with a great hook and then the rest of the book keeps you guessing as to who was being referenced in the first chapter. Everything seems so artificial and staged that it leaves the reader to ponder what is authentic and what is artifice.

If you like thrillers, you will love this one.
