It's an easy book to read and enjoy. The pacing is fast. The character work is good. The world is interesting and fun. (It's worth noting that if you haven't read the author's series "Stormlight Archive", there appear to be minor spoilers for it inside this book? It's hard to say much more without giving anything away but there appear to be some details from that other series that come up here. I don't think it's anything too substantive that would break one's enjoyment of reading Stormlight Archive later, but depending on how you want to approach your reading of the author's work it's something to be aware of.)
The plot of this one flows along well and the arc of the main character is pretty interesting. He has some definite growth and change over the course of the story. The world he finds himself in is also developed in a compelling organic way without reliance on exposition dumps. As far as fantasy worlds go it's not one of the more layered complex ones but it still feels interesting and unique. There is an enjoyable pulpy comic book type quality to it. A great summer read overall.
