Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
5.0
I was hoping that this was going to be good but it turned out to be so much better - here's a book that completely swept me away in its writing, characters, prose, and narration as I got to meet and love Aristotle, "Ari" as he makes the greatest discovery in the universe - accepting oneself!
This book literally took my heart and just ran away with it. There was never a dull moment or any slow pacing, the characters are great as each one introduced brought a new level of emotion and depth to the story and in terms of Ari, especially Dante - which what a great meeting of these two! What a great moment - probably one of my top 5 moments of this book.
One of the other top moments is that I listened to the audiobook read by Lin-Manuel Miranda, which did such a fantastic choice! Being Latina and hearing him read between English and Spanish and the hardly used Spanglish was just everything. Hearing that accent was just so real and provided a genuine voice to all of these characters especially Ari and Dante. He provides such a great annotation between them that you never lose your place in the audio as he switches back and forth through everyone but he caters to these characters and made me just love them all the more.
I need Lin-Manuel to read another book hopefully with some Spanish or maybe a Spanish book! Chop Chop Lin-Manuel!
