I've been grabbing any Georgette Heyer I can find in the library, because I recall how much I loved them in my teens. I must confess that some of them haven't lived up to my memory of them. I suppose as a teenager, it never occurred to me that a nineteen-year-old heroine wasn't an adult, and therefore being attracted to another adult - even one twenty years her senior - didn't strike me as odd.
Reading the books today, I'm uncomfortable with the age difference that often exists. So it was a relief to read Arabella. Again, I think there was an age difference - but because it wasn't dwelt on, I was able to forget about it (see, I can't even remember their ages now!). That left me free to enjoy the romance and the ridiculous romp. great fun.
