A Touch of Ruin by Scarlett St. Clair
4.0

i love this world and i love these characters so so much! i really enjoyed seeing where this book took hades and persephone as they finally faced trials while being a couple as opposed to going through it to get together like they did in the first book. i loved seeing persephone come into her own as she grew in her powers and also just in her confidence. seeing how powerful she already is makes me so look forward to seeing how she’s gonna be once she truly gains control over her power.

i will say there were moments where the sex scenes felt a little unnecessary (and i’m usually not bothered by these things). for example, after lexa finally truly passed away and lexa and persephone are saying goodbye to each other in the underworld then on the literal next page, hades and persephone have sex for half a page and then she moves on to telling him that she’s starting her own newspaper the line after. it just felt like the wrong time considering i was still shedding tears over lexa and it took me out of it for a second. another time was when they had sex at the end on their way to olympia for the dinner it just felt like it was being used to fill the time in the limo and that’s it. those just felt like they were in there just cause and weren’t as enjoyable as the other ones to me.

i also did feel like there were some random plot points in there that weren’t necessary (unless they’ll come to play at some point in the future but idk?). like her getting kidnapped, it only lasted a few pages and then okay that was it.

i see a lot of mixed or negative reviews of this book, especially in relation to persephone and how she acted and went about things. i definitely feel like there were times where persephone was selfish and there wasn’t time for her to truly acknowledge and think about the things she had done, but i also personally am someone who’s happy to move on quickly from annoying or shitty situations in a book so i don’t end up giving things like that much of a thought. i also just love reading a book where a man loves a woman the way that hades loves persephone and that kinda blinds me to so many other things.

overall, i really enjoyed this book, not as much as the first one, but still really enjoyed it and look forward to jumping right into the next book. i do hope to see some improvement between the characters and i’m hoping that the next book will be more hades & persephone vs someone as opposed to hades and persephone having issues that pull them apart.

4.25 stars!
