The Broken Note
by Nelia Alarcon
First of all, I wanna talk about the names in this book because breeze and Dutch sound like they’re best friends with stormy and north.
This book is complete garbage. It has absolutely no point in the whole series I mean the plot just spiraled out of control the entire series. I felt like the author couldn’t even make up her mind about which direction she wanted this book to go because jinx became so unnecessary in the second and third book. She was a fine little element to add in the first book. You know she did something in the second and third she basically had no use. She was no help The entire plot with cadence‘s mom coming back and working with Jared Cross was so unnecessary like hello what she literally added nothing to the story Kayden’s mom coming back added absolutely nothing to the story. There was no point I don’t usually like baby tropes in books, but I honestly felt like it was the best thing the author could’ve done was the inheritance little scheme because it kind of set a driving factor for them to rush the marriage but then at the end we didn’t even get clarification if cadence was pregnant like hello? This is just dumb. Everything about this is dumb.
And also so many unanswered questions but I don’t care enough to read the other books like it’s just annoying. I did think that the story has potential. I could definitely rewrite this better than what the end result came out with. I feel like we should’ve stayed more on track with the whole music thing because this book just straight so far from the original first book, I mean the whole thing with redhead forgotten like cadence stage fight nonexistent like it was just so unnecessary. I would’ve definitely kept the elements of more teen related stuff because you’re telling me these people are 17 and 18 and they’re calling themselves the kings of a prep school? I mean who do they think they are they need to calm down like you’re 18! Because I want you to name 117 and 18 year-old that are doing the things that Dutch cross is doing. What 17 and 18-year-old are allowed to just use their school as a lounge and go to class when they want to. I mean it’s just so unrealistic and over the top. It’s like if gossip girl was on crack with the whole jinx vibe and the whole everyone is just so obsessed with them vibe.
There’s so much more that I have a problem with in this book but I’m getting upset. The only reason this book isn’t one star is because I was interested the whole story because I think the author did do a good job in writing Dutch and cadence‘s romance. I am forever a slow burn girly, however I think that their anger could have tone down a little bit because it’s just unrealistic especially in this book because what is cadence show aggressive for like I don’t understand but yeah, I did like wanting to know what would happen between the two of them, but I still have so many problems. It just doesn’t compare.
I also want to talk about the fact that this was a trilogy and not a standalone which it should’ve been actually it should’ve been the first book about Dutch and cadence the second book about Zane and the teacher and the last book about Finn and Jinkx because I honestly would’ve had so much more fun reading Finn and jinx the story because Finn and jinx like it’s just something I never knew I needed. I honestly love Finn. He’s definitely my favorite brother. However, I also actually really like soul. He definitely has a lot more layers to impact and I’m so upset we didn’t get to see more of him in this book. He was my favorite character in the second book I like hidden she’s annoying, but I like her so I wanted to explore more of soul and cadence like I wanted to see maybe Dutch trying to let cadence go like trying to convince himself you know what maybe I’m actually delusional you know? And I wanted to see cadence like try to make herself forget about Dutch like how she goes with Hunter, which is so unnecessary like we did not need to bring Hunter back. He has nothing to the story. Rick doesn’t add much either because like the whole plot I’m getting off topic but the whole plot with her and her mother is just so I’m in so unnecessary like give us something better. You know I would’ve loved to see cadence and soul explore their friendship lol a little bit more yeah I’m just I feel like the author had no plan for this. I feel like she just sat down, wrote it all out and didn’t even read it over before she hit publish so
Anyways, yeah, that’s in my review. I don’t really write reviews like this. Usually they’re pretty good and they’re all like good things about this book stuff to look forward to Trope. I enjoyed like all this cute stuff about how much I like the book. This was just a rant about how much I did not like it, but I honestly can’t bring myself to say that I didn’t enjoy reading it though so it’s like that’s why I did two stars for me because there was no point but I’d Say 60% of the time I enjoyed myself reading so for that it is a two stars however it is not a good book.
