To start entirely objective: this is a book about idiots.

And about love, idiotic decisions, life, death, and all the stupid, impulsive, and overly emotional discrepancies we find in between. This is not just about the bank robber, but the hostages. Also a bridge. And a father and son. Anyways. This book walks you through a fabled day (the day before New Year's Eve, for goodness sakes) when a bank robber stumbles into an apartment viewing with the real estate agent, two couples, an old woman, and a younger woman, who looks fifty-ish. (Also a person in a bunny suit, but they don't know that yet). This was a very sweet, heartfelt story. I love how all the characters managed to find peace, whether with themselves or the world around them, which only truly belongs to God at the end of it. I expected it to be a little bit darker, but the topics of death and sadness are impactful, and each character beats and loves through it. (Very interested in how the Netflix show will turn out!)
