The Wrong Game by Kandi Steiner
5.0

This book was everything I needed to get me in the fall state of mind! The perfect mix of football, romance, and angst! The setting for this story, Chicago, one of my favorite cities, was the icing on the cake.

The prologue had me holding my breath. It was painful, raw, and hooked me right away. I couldn’t get enough of the football theme that ran throughout the entire story. It was so fun and I could relate to the story so easily. (I’m as obsessed with baseball as Gemma is with football!) The pacing was set so well that I didn’t even realize it was 3am and I only had about 10% left to read.

Gemma Mancini is looking for a fresh start and with the beginning of the football season there’s no better time. She has been hurt in the past and her trust in men completely shattered. She is determined to stick to her plan of taking a different guy to every home game this season. She’s not open to a new relationship, she just wants to have some well deserved fun. Zach, a swoony, strong, and handsome bartender throws himself into her plan and neither of them are quite ready for what happens next.

I loved watching them navigate their feelings for each other while both having to deal with their pasts. Life isn’t always easy and we can’t always let completely go of our past. What happens to us throughout our life, makes us who we are and shapes what kind of future we can have.

I absolutely loved Gemma’s best friend, Belle! Everyone needs a best friend like her. Someone who will call them on their crap and constantly be looking out for them their best interests. Oh! I can’t forget about Zach’s younger brother Micah. He was so funny! I laughed out loud while reading the scenes with him.

This was not the most gut-wrenching book I’ve read by Kandi but I absolutely loved it just the same! Do yourself a favor, whether you like football or not, you’ll fall in love with these two!
