The Winter of the Witch
by Katherine Arden
Emotional finish to a series that I loved reading ♡ The author's prose is incredible, so many lines across all three books left me in awe of her facility with language, her ability to create such evocative scenes and images with her words. Vasilisa Petrovna is one of the best characters I've had the privilege to come across in a novel in quite a while, I won't soon forget her. Her yearning for freedom and power and even ambition, alongside her love and protectiveness towards her own loved ones and even defenseless strangers alike, really resonated with me.
I do wish we got to see a glimpse of her future adventures, but I like where the story left her. Solovey's return very nearly brought tears to my eyes, coming right off the heels of Sasha's death made it sooo emotional.
Vasya finding Morozko on the midwinter midnight felt like a culmination of the past two novels of buildup, and for me, it did not disappoint! I think this book brought the payoff for a lot that was set up in the past two. I enjoyed all three novels immensely.
