Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray

Title : Defy the stars by Claudia Gray (constellation #1)
Rating : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Genre : Sci-fi, ya, space opera, romance

The book is told from dual POV. Noemi Vidal, a soldier sworn to protect her planet, Genesis. She’s willing to risk anything—including her own life. To their enemies on Earth, she’s a rebel.

Abel, a machine, abandoned in space for years, utterly alone, has advanced programming that’s begun to evolve. He wants only to protect his creator, and to be free. To the people of Genesis, he’s an abomination.

This book was so much better than I imagined! The characters started off as somewhat unlikable but developed so much that midway through the book I was terrified of something happening to them. (I was literally praying for them to get through. 😄)

There are considerably few characters but all of them have different personalities and I ended up caring for most of them. Noemi and Abel are enemies in an interstellar war, forced by chance to work together as they embark on a daring journey through the stars. As they travel through the galaxy from planet to planet like going from city to city, there's a lot of excitement and even more at stake.

Highly recommend to the fans of sci-fi, space books, stars, slow burn romance, emotional ups and downs, friendship and epic adventure (and awesome writing).
Bonus point : no love triangle.

Note : the author also wrote The Firebird Trilogy. I loved the series but I might like this one even better
