Завещанието на Гидиън Мак

BQ ✒ - "And now I am almost finished, and the time has come. Better days and other worlds are waiting ... I feel young and I feel old. I feel as though I am standing on the edge of eternity"
This was our book club read for November 📚 I struggled at first but so glad I persevered as the second half was worth the wait
1.➖I still can't make my mind up about Gideon Mack as a character 🤔 I definitely felt like I was reading the words of an unreliable narrator, but felt at the half way point his life story was quite bland till then. There is nothing wrong with that usually, but for it take up half the book before we get to the main plotline was a bit of a drag
2.✔Having said the above, I surprisingly found myself actively wanting to pick up this book every night to dive in. And this was not to rush through and get it over with, I genuinely wanted to see where the story was taking me. I couldn't say why it hooked me - potentially the subtle quirkiness of the book? All I know is Gideon Mack got into my head and wouldn't leave any time soon
3.✔ After getting past the half way mark, I started to get fully emotionally invested in the book. My favourite section is definitely the epilogue (this is where my quote is taken from ❤)! All through the book you hear from Gideon as your sole advisor. Hearing testemants of his character from so many familiar characters was a brilliang ending, and it left me pondering Gideon's character even more then before
Overall, really glad I read this. Something I wouldn't have chosen for myself but was definitely worth taking a chance on
