I had a lot of high hopes for this book and in a lot of ways I really enjoyed it. But I wanted to enjoy it more.
I liked the characters, I liked the world, I liked the concept. I didn't like the pace. I feel like just about all of my disconnect with the story was that it was very uneven. It would be rushing headlong down the story then stall in moments and then jump ahead leaving me behind. Maybe there was too much happening? I'm not really sure. It sort of felt like there were 2 or 3 books in one.
The end was also very unsatisfying. I understand that Mead left questions intentionally unanswered because there are other books in the series about those characters, but it was done in such a heavy handed way that made it less tantalizing and more frustrating.
Overall an enjoyable read, though I'm not sure if I will be continuing the series.
