A Hologram for the King by Dave Eggers

4.0

A good read. Deep, lots to think about, but also very evocative of a feeling of listlessness, dreamlike state. A "what am I doing here" kind of feel that I've had traveling abroad as well. Poetic in its melancholy. “The work of man is done behind the back of the natural world. When nature notices, and can muster the energy, it wipes the slate clean again.”

“People think you’re able to help them and usually you can’t,” he writes. “And so it becomes a process of choosing the one or two people you try hardest not to disappoint."
