Ok, I read this book for research purposes of reading a classic book for a children's lit course I am taking. It was fine in the beginning. The baby chicken was napping under a tree, an acorn fell on its head, thinking the sky was falling, headed to alert the king.

** SPOILER**

Other feathered friends accompany the chick. Eventually they, as a flock, come across a fox. He asks where they're headed, they reply "to tell the king the sky is falling". The fox tells them they're going the wrong way and offers to lead them in the right direction.

As in, to his den...where he EATS THE ENTIRE FLOCK!!!!

Seriously, I wish there had been some warning about this ending as I (as an adult) was mortified!!!! I don't believe if another version I read YEARS AGO ended this way. But I'm pretty sure it did not and I happened across the luck of the draw 😭😭😭
