The Burning by Jane Casey
3.0

This book reads sort of like a slow episode of Law and Order. The crime and investigation was well written (although I will say that I thought the final explanation of events (not the actual resolution, but the manner in which everything was revealed) was totally not plausible).
The characters and backstories... I didn't get as much out of those. The romantic subplot seemed cliched and totally predictable, and either the majority of the characters were the same, or I just couldn't get enough of a sense of them to know.
I didn't realize while reading but I see now that this is the first book in a series, so perhaps everything was underdeveloped so as to give more fodder for future books... but I'm not sure I care enough about anyone in the story to want to read more. It wasn't bad, just not particularly compelling, either.
