Here We Go Again by Alison Cochrun

3.0

very underwhelmed and so devastated about it bc i wanted to like this book so bad!!!!
a lot of my qualms with this book are the same ones i had with kiss her once for me - characters being annoying and immature, lack of chemistry/relationship development, never ending millennial pop culture references. i could keep going but i would literally just be parroting what everyone else who rated 3 stars or less has said in their reviews so go read those instead, we share the same sentiment.
if i were rosemary hale i would’ve tossed logan off the side of the grand canyon about a quarter of the way in and been done with it. even life in federal prison sounded better to me than putting up with her for even one page longer.
it just felt very difficult to root for the romance aspect or become invested in the plot when the character i felt the most empathy for was odie the dog.
the prose was super beautiful, it’s well written don’t get me wrong but logan pissed me off from page one and never got any better and i just wasn’t able to move past that enough to see any chemistry between her and rosemary (or really see any of her redeeming qualities at all).
my favourite part of the book was when the khakis guy tells them off at bbq restaurant and points out his husband and kids when logan accuses him of homophobia. why is this inconsequential scene my favourite bit of the entire novel? because i have a very delusional headcanon that that was a cameo of charlie and dev and their little family and i will never be normal about those two for as long as i live.
despite being pretty unimpressed with this and with kiss her once for me i would still call myself a fan of alison cochrun and i will still hold out hope for her next incoming novel that maybe the main characters have a shred more maturity than they did in this book. i’m sorry lesbians but this one was just not for me.
