For my girlies who have seen the Pride and Prejudice movie (2005 version), you could have told me this entire book was written by Mr. Collins himself and no part of me would be surprised. If you don’t know what I mean, look up the potato scene on YouTube and that’s all you need to know about how this book is written.
It read like a single stream of consciousness for 450 pages yet was oddly divided up into 199 separate chapters? Strange. I found the synopsis to be wildly misleading about what this book would be about / who would take the main stage in terms of narration so that made the reading experience 1) confusing and 2) decidedly not what I signed up for. Not to mention I’m still slightly unsure about what “the point” or the message of this book was?
I pondered a couple of times at some really thought-provoking prose, but I’m afraid that didn’t make up for my overall feelings while reading this book, which was mostly confusion, disappointment, and boredom (with the occasional chuckle at funny/satirical dialogue).
