The Etymologicon: A Circular Stroll through the Hidden Connections of the English Language by Mark Forsyth

funny informative lighthearted fast-paced

5.0

This is an excellent book, delivers exactly what it promises (and it really is circular, the last paragraph links up with the first). It moves quickly through so many topics, linking one thought to another in a stream-of-conciousness way that leaves no room for boredom, but does manage to fit in plenty of humour. The only thing that could improve it would be an index to look up the origins of specific words, but really it covers so much that index would be half the length of the book again, so I suppose the blog will be better for that.
