~ Short Synopsis~

It's not just Maeve that has a hidden gift now...Roe can pick locks, Lily can control electricity and Fiona has a new skill for healing. The four of them spend all their summer in each others pockets, perfecting their newly found gifts. But as the new school year approaches, old enemies start appearing a little too close to home...

~Review~

I read the first book in this series last year and absolutely fell in love. I was so excited to return to this series and I'm glad to say I was not disappointed.

I think my favourite thing about this series is the characters. The character development from the first book to this book is excellent. I'm so attached to them all now which made reading this book fairly stressful I won't lie - I just want them all to be alright!

As much as I love Maeve and Roe, I really liked how this book focused more on Maeve's relationship with Lily and Fiona. I liked that we got to see way more of Lily in this book because I really love her. O'Donoghue has a real skill for crafting realistic characters and relationships and I don't think I've ever been so invested in a bunch of made up teenagers (with the exception of maybe the Crows).

Something else that's incredibly realistic is the villains. I'm sure I said this before about the first book but the villains in this story are so scary because they are so real - people like that with those harmful and hateful opinions really exist in this world and it's terrifying.

Even though this book is the second in a series, the story really stands on its own two feet. I would even go as far to say that it could be read as a standalone...but I would highly recommend that you do read the first book as it is also fantastic.

I cannot wait for the last book in the trilogy...but I am not ready to say goodbye to these characters yet!
