I wanted so badly to like this book! After reading Oaths of Legacy by Emily Skrutskie, I was ready for another gay space adventure. Alas, Winter's Orbit was just so boring that it was painful. Such an interesting universe built, ripe for sci fi exploration, only for the book to trudge through chapters upon chapters of politics, embezzlement plots, etc. It wasn't until 150 pages in that I even knew what this books was going to be about. Someone described the romance as 'slow burn', but it was just slow. There was no burn. By the time our two leads started to warm up to each other, I was so annoyed by hoe long this had all taken that I felt no chemistry between them and was actually rooting against them. One thing I'll give major brownie points for was the portrayal of trauma and anxiety from an abusive relationship. Very well handled.
