The Twelve Dogs of Christmas by Lizzie Shane

4.0

If you like a holiday romance in a small town this is the book for you! Pine Hollow is the perfect winter town to bring out the holiday season and feelings. You have Ally, who is back in town, to help her grandparents out with their dog shelter. She is feeling a little lost, not sure where "home" is for her. Then she finds out that a Grinch has taken away the shelter funding and they have to find a home for the dogs there, in the middle of the holiday season. The "Grinch" is none other than Ben West. He has adopted a tough personality while caring for his niece and filling in for his sister and brother-in-law who died two years ago. He does feel terrible about the shelter closing, so he offers a truce to Ally in helping her find homes for all the dogs. What they don't expect is for the truce to lead to feelings for both of them.

This story was adorable and got me in the holiday spirit. I loved the two main characters and I thought Ben's niece, Astrid, was a wonderful addition to the story. I thought it was wonderful how Astrid and Ally connected about the loss of their parents and it seemed to develop a positive relationship apart from Ben and Ally's budding relationship.

Ally was a wonderful character, who seemed to have so much heart. She cared so much about everything in town. I also thought Ben was a character with a heart too, it was just a bit harder to see, as he was so overwhelmed with everything that was going on in his life, and the feeling that he had to do everything.

If you are looking for a cozy holiday read, this is the book for you. It is adorable and such a sweet read!
