I struggle to think what to say about this book that hasn’t already been said. This book has been on my TBR for, quite literally, years. I finally got around to it, and the hype is deserved.
This is a book in which, essentially, nothing happens. Our unnamed narrator seeks to put herself into a psycho-pharmaceutical-induced sleep for a full year, in the hopes of achieving a “rebirth” of sorts. For a book with such a sparse plot, I quickly became engrossed and could not put it down.
Ottessa Moshfegh’s prose is sharp—equal parts acerbically funny and disarmingly insightful. I’m so glad I finally checked this one off my TBR, and I’m planning on making way through the rest of Moshfegh’s work.
TWs for drug use, eating disorder, mental illness, and grief.
