The Prophets by Robert Jones Jr.

5.0

There are good books, there are great books, and then there are books that are so spectacular that they leave you different than when you started.

Robert Jones Jr.’s debut novel, The Prophets, is the latter.

Set in Mississippi at the Halifax Plantation, I don’t think I have ever read a book that depreciated slavery, from both the perspectives of slaves and slave owners, the way that Jones Jr. depicted slavery.

It is rare to connect with characters the way I connected to Samuel and Isaiah. And with their relationship being the anchor for all other character perspectives - it allowed me to relate to all of Jones Jr.’s characters on a deeper level.

This book is beautifully unique, hopeful and heartbreaking, and unapologetically breathtaking.

If this book is not on your radar, your tbr, or in your cart - it needs to be. I cannot stress how amazing this book is.

All the stars. I already know that this is going to be one of the best books of the year... because it is already one of the best books I have ever read.
