A Red Herring Without Mustard by Alan Bradley

For a person who doesn't like cozy mysteries, I sure like this series, following the hijinks of Flavia de Luce, a precocious 11-year-old amateur detective, with a keen interest in chemistry. It doesn't hurt that Jayne Entwhistle is an excellent narrator.
