The Pet Shop is an exclusive, secretive website that leases humans out for hire. They are, for intents and purposes, prostitutes that cater to a particular kink. They are slaves for their keepers, unable to do anything without consent and treated exactly like a pet. Stella is rewarded by her boss for all her hard work with a particularly cheeky pet by the name of Tino. When he arrives in her home, her initial reaction is one of disgust. Within two minutes of meeting the over friendly, and incredibly sexy Tino, she begins to change her mind. She spends the weekend embroiled in some very hot and heavy, kinky sex (look out for a food scene) but soon she has to say goodbye to her faithful friend. She spends the next week obsessing over the mischievous Tino. When she is offered the opportunity to see him again, she jumps at the chance. Little does she know that she would begin to develop feelings for him, or that their introduction is engineered by her boss to determine her pliability for their secret “plan” When she sees the picture of a local naturist, Vincent Evanston, she realises that Tino may only exist at the weekends. After an altercation with the reclusive millionaire, her access to Tino is cut off abruptly. Luckily, her friend, and superior, Anne, offers her a one shot chance to see him again. Will she allow herself to be immersed deeper into the world of the Pet Shop for him?
This book is erotic romance. This book is also so far removed from my usual comfort zone, I’ve had to give it a few days to digest before I reviewed because I simply could not give it a rating! The concept of the Pet Shop reminded me a little of As She’s Told, which immediately got my back up (sorry Anders fans). The one thing that saved this concept for me was the authors rational for the whole concept. Some people like to be keepers. They want to be in control of another person, to nurture and care for them like a pet. However, they don’t want to do it full time, so they pay for a service. On the other hand, some people like to be pets, so they pay to be pets for a time. This made sense to me. Both participations are open and honest and, importantly for me, paying clients of a company. One big thing for me though, unprotected sex. There is lots and lots of sex. There is also sex with multiple partners and both sexes (There is F/M, F/F, M/M/F and F/F/F/M) but there is no mention of protection. It bugged me, but I didn’t let it affect the scoring, even if was a little irresponsible.
Let’s start with the characters. Stella is a good strong character. She was comfortable with her sexuality, which made the sex scenes amazing. She did, however, get a little too obsessed with Tino a little too soon. Yes, he’s a pretty man, yes, he has some amazing sex moves and he’s incredibly obedient. However, she is obsessed with a suspected hooker after a weekend...it’s odd. I admire her for doing anything she can to see him once she has attempted to contact him though. I won’t tell you the lengths that she goes to, but it’s far! At no point did I feel she was over her head, and the scene with the Professor was mega hot! The Tino/Vincent thing was a little odd to begin with. At the weekend, he is this uninhibited sexual being who will sleep with anyone and do anything. During “Real life”, he is Vincent, a mega businessman with a whole lot of money. I understood the need to let go of the public persona and just be. I thought it was very well crafted. I couldn’t see a HEA; I just enjoyed the incredibly hot sex. There is added intrigue with the “plan” that is constantly discussed by the Boss and Annie in covert phone calls. We don’t know what the deal is, but there is a plan for Stella in the company for which she has been hand selected. It added a level of intrigue, which I enjoyed!
This isn’t palm sweaty sex. Once you get comfortable with the concept, this story is full of sex that makes your heart pump and your libido race. The way Stella abandons everything for the pure sensation and eroticism that Tino brings is refreshing. She craves him, and that kind of erotic desperation was just...wow! This is one of the steamiest books I’ve read this year. No, it wasn’t a “nice” story, and the motivation behind the characters actions was often highly flawed and questionable, but it kept me engrossed and made me react. My favourite scene involved Stella, Tino, a kinky professor and a “punishment”,*phew* :D I’d like a password to that website please........
