Aboriginal Suicide Is Different: A Portrait of Life and Self Destruction by Colin Tatz

challenging dark reflective slow-paced

5.0

Despite the title including the term of “self-destruction” this book argues the supports needed by governments and communities to support Aboriginal communities. This book was published originally in 2001, and much of the information holds up, except for statistics which have changed as happens with time. Tatz provides examples not just from the Aboriginal populations of Australia but from many around the world including Canada, North America, New Zealand, South Africa and more. Tatz looks at the impacts from colonisation, othering from the other populations, impacts of lack of training and understanding of Aboriginal populations communities and further topics. Tatz provides supportive ideas of how support could be provided.
