Scythe by Neal Shusterman
4.0

There is plenty of brutality in teen fiction these days, but here Shusterman treats his violent narrative with real humanity and compassion. The world he’s created is both rich and compelling, and the constant twists and unexpected plot devices make for a gripping read. This is one series you’ll certainly want to continue.

*Second read update: this one is as good as I remembered. Sharp writing, carefully and thoughtfully constructed world, interesting characters, good plot twists. It’s not just another teen dystopian novel, but one that examines avarice and privilege that resounds with even more strength in Trump’s dark America.
