Sometimes I have to think about a book for a while before I can sit down and write a review for it. Not the case for THE WITCH HUNTER. I finished this book half a second ago, knew exactly what I wanted to say about it and put off dinner for 20 minutes so I could open up Blogger and tell you why I think you should pick it up pretty dang soon.

I love fantasy stories. While I've been reading a lot of contemporary lately, I try to always be listening to a fantasy book on audio if I'm not physically reading one. I listen to them the same way I read them, sloowly. There are lots of fancy names and back stories to remember. There are four hundred kingdoms to learn about and understand why one is at war with another. I've been watching Game of Thrones for what, five years now? I couldn't name more than six characters off the top of my head. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. It's just, fantasy means my brain is inevitablely going to turn to mush with all the remembering I have to do. Which brings me to the current review at hand. *ahem* (Sorry, had to put a little back story in there for you)

THE WITCH HUNTER was a breath of fresh air for me! It came in like a masquerade ball and delivered everything I love about fantasy with no mushy brain syndrome. An intriguing and multi-layered story, paranormal beings, a heroine that kicks booty, a despicable villain, a childhood crush/love/rivalry, swoons galore, magic, fighting, adventure and really cool chapter headings. I read this in roughly 3 hours. That's gotta be my land speed record for reading fantasy.

The other thing Boecker did that I adored? Delivered a satisfying ending. I was worried for a bit. THINGS come to a head at the end and then MORE THINGS happen and then BOOM! The chapter ends. I looked at my Kindle to see that I was 97% complete with the book and I thought for sure I was going to turn the page and see acknowledgements. NOPE. Boecker doesn't leave us hanging, guys! I mean, sure, you're going to be anxious to get your hands on book two of the series, but you won't be hanging from a cliff.

This is a strong debut novel that deserves the attention it's getting. Highly recommend this one for fantasy fans of all ages. Completely appropriate for middle school readers.
