Love Style Life by Garance Doré

4.0

This book was so beautiful, and so interesting! I love Garance's writing style, too. You really feel like you're friends, and she's sat you down to explain her entire life to you.

Most of the book discusses the fashion and culture differences between France and New York City, from clothes, to fashion shows, to even lunch and dinner and work schedules. Being from New York, (though not the city) I could easily see just how different it is, and while reading sections about New York, I would say to myself, oh my god, we do do that!

What's the most interesting aspect of this though is that Garance breaks it down by saying, well, this is how I grew up in France and this is how we do things, and this is how I learned to assimilate myself as a New Yorker when I moved. It's a really interesting dichotomy, because now she's part French, part New Yorker, and she explains that she's caught on to American lingo and social cues, but sometimes she'll still freak out over something (like a friend saying I love you) and will have to learn for herself that that's just what Americans do.

The other parts of the book delves into her growing up, her changing styles, how she got into fashion, and even advice, from everything to fashion, love, and life (I.e. The title of the book).

This book was so interesting and so beautiful, and I would tell anyone who likes fashion, life advice, and different cultures to read it. Highly recommended!
