The Bitter Twins by Jen Williams

2.0

I have mixed feelings about this book. I agree with other reviewers that the last half is as fast as the beginning is slow... however, more than that, the first half of the book really irritated me. I almost gave up on this, but felt too invested. In the first half, every character was their flawed personality trait to the 'nth' degree. 100% arrogant, 100% self-pitying, 100% self-righteous, 100% close-minded, etc ... ugh. Everyone was simply irritating. I'm all about character flaws, but no one had ANY redeeming factors - until the end of the book, which I couldn't put down. So, while I am frustrated by this, I am equal parts pulled back into the story and feel the need to finish out the series. It seems to be this author's MO: a slow/mediocre first half and then a wonderful whirlwind conclusion. I prefer a bit more well-rounded experience. If I had not made it 2/3 the way through this series already, I wouldn't bother finishing it and would not necessarily recommend it to future readers.
