This book touches me in a very particular way, because I am a woman in a country that has been in conflict for decades and until now, they are trying to make the necessary reparations to women and LGBTIQ+ people who are victims of violence within the framework of the conflict.
Kyr, our protagonist, is relentless, stubborn, strict with herself and demanding too much of others. But it's all a facade to lie to herself. You soon realize that deep down she is terrified and that all the bravado she projects is just a form of self-defense, she knows, deep down inside her, that they are going to betray her anyway. That all that she refuses to see and that she covers with her loyalty as a soldier, sees her and will not allow her to escape the destiny that awaits women, even if they are the most exemplary.
Humanity lost the war years ago and Kyr lives on a space station that houses the last bastion that refuses to accept defeat and join the rest of the humans in the galaxy. It is a military enclave that dedicates all its energies to having a small, well-trained army that will one day give humans back their place in the galaxy... But as Kyr loses everything, we witness everything that happens to her. What they have taken from her and everyone who is part of the station, in the name of the cause.
Her older sister deserted years ago and she tries to cover that stain by being the best. Her brother is sent on a suicide mission. But when her fate is decided by others, Kyr decides to prove that she doesn't deserve that fate because she can do the impossible and bring him back. But no plan survives contact with the enemy, and perhaps being forced to see what she never wanted to see is what she needs to say no for the first time in her life.
The book has trigger warnings at the beginning, but I'll just leave you with these questions and please, think about them with conflict zones around the world in your mind: It's a small enclave, where do the soldiers needed for the cause come from?

Este libro me toca de manera muy particular, porque soy una mujer en un país que ha estado en conflicto por décadas y hasta ahora se están tratando de hacer las reparaciones necesarias hacia las mujeres y las personas LGBTIQ+ víctimas de violencia en el marco del conflicto.
Kyr, nuestra protagonista, es implacable, terca, se exige y exige demasiado. Pero todo es una fachada para mentirse a sí misma. Pronto te das cuenta que en el fondo está aterrorizada y que todo el bravado que proyecta, es sólo una forma de autodefensa, ella sabe, muy en lo profundo de su ser, que igual la van a traicionar.
