I confess I was not all that keen on the first book of this series.  I was struggling to see why Bookstagrammers were crazy over Jacks.  I found it hard to sympathise with him and apart from one moment, I was still searching for anything that would warrant the adoration given to him.   However, I was assured that the next book, this book, was better than the first and so I decided to give it a chance.

I was so glad I listened and decided to read it.  This book was AMAZING and yes Jacks deserves all the adoration and attention because he’s just so darn precious.  He’s certainly capable of wicked deeds, he’s a morally grey sort of guy but he is also now showing his gentle side, his ‘touch her and die’ side when it comes to Evangeline.

Evangeline is an interesting character, she makes such bad choices at times but she also knows she wants to take action rather than sit back and let other people dictate her actions.  She knows Jacks wants the stones, and she knows Chaos wants the Valory Arch opening but neither of them is telling her the truth as to why so she’s making her own decisions based on the little information she has and she wants to save Apollo before he kills them both thanks to them being cursed.

We also start to learn a bit about Jacks’ background, his growing up and his friends.  The whole realm and Houses and the history are fascinating and complex, I’m loving the twists and turns in the story and the legends.

Always nice to end on a cliffhanger (NOT!) so I am very anxious to read the final book and see what mysteries and adventures lie in wait for Evangeline, Jacks and Apollo (and Chaos perhaps) as we head towards the finale.
