I liked the horror elements. The world it was set in and the body horror. The writing was good and I enjoyed Byatts perspectives. All in all, the first half of the book was good, the second half towards the end felt really rushed with everything happening at once. I didn’t really understand the way the ending is supposed to work in the context of a standalone.

I feel like the romance between hetty and reese could’ve been set up/kept up better. It didn’t feel out of nowhere but they didn’t really linger on any tension either. I liked that they went into the guilt of hetty killing Mr. Harker and that Reese doesn’t just easily forgive her and I think their dynamic had a lot of potential that just wasn’t really used to its full extend.
