A rollicking, moving tale — at turns poetic and familiar, others water-borne and strange from faraway times of myth and legend. Vengeance and blood, the spectre of death, and the pitfalls of pride are no match for Headley's sheer turns of phrase. As a story, twisting and beautiful, and as a linguistic piece, rich and endlessly interesting.
