So the good news is - I finished this book in a day. It's simple writing and not particularly long, so it's a nice beach read. But when all is said and done - the book was just okay. My main problem with it was that it just wasn't believable at all. Not the whole ugly girl gets good looking guy - that does actually happen. But no self-respecting adult makes the kind of comments about a woman they don't know or even one they do, that literally almost EVERY adult makes in this book. I'm sorry, but no. A few - sure. There's some jerks out there. Maybe some drunken idiots might do it. But everyone? Dude, people have their own lives. They don't waste their time commenting on how ugly someone is because they have a big nose. No one cares! People have their own insecurities to deal with.

Without going into details, I wish they'd focused more heavily on how her insecurities stemmed from her really bad youthful experience (which honestly, totally fair, that was humiliating), and maybe ONE or TWO (no more!) comments she heard while trying to date someone sexy. Like, the women in the bathroom - that was jealousy and something I could see. Then we could see her overcome that, and realize that when you're a grown up, people focus on personality a lot more than they do as teenagers. And that she's a smart, successful woman who deserves love the same as anyone else.

But that didn't happen. Add that on top of the overly graphic (yet somehow still boring) sex scenes and thoughts (seriously, does anyone think that graphically for that long?), and 2 stars it is. I did see a little snippet for the next book - Muffin Top. Now that I could see happening - probably because I've experienced something similar. So I might pick that up. I have a feeling I won't like it any more than this one but what can I say? I'm nothing if not uncontrollably curious.
