Conspiracy in Death by J.D. Robb

3.0

Conspiracy in Death was the first In Death book that just didn't grab and hold my attention like the others in the series. I mean there were moments where I was interested in the mystery and what was going on, but then moments would come where it lost me. I would almost have more enjoyed the whole book to focus on Eve regaining her badge instead of that incident stemming from the case Eve was working on. I think there could have been a good story where Eve just butted heads with Bowers, Bowers was killed, Eve is considered a suspect, relieved of her badge an Eve needs to figure out who killed Bowers along with other corrupt cops in the department. Still follows the same storyline yet cuts out the extraneous (in my mind) organ transplant plot. I think after Eve loses her badge the focus shifts off of that storyline and onto Eve's dilemma. It should have been one or the other in my opinion.

Also, the romance element felt a bit off too. I mean I liked how Roarke was completely supportive of Eve and when the time was right how he kicked her butt into gear, but there just wasn't that same feeling of intimacy that there usually is between the two of them.

I did like to see the dedication shown between Feeny, Mira, Peabody, and McNab for Eve. That they stood by her and believed in her.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come for the series. I intend to keep reading this series. I would like to be able to get through the whole thing. I would hate to have to stop less than halfway through. Until Then!
