Alyssa Cole's "When No One Is Watching" explores a compelling premise, but the execution left me wanting more. The two main characters, who are central to the story, never quite came to life; they remained flat and one-dimensional, which made it difficult to fully invest in their journey. The plot moved at a very slow pace for the majority of the book. While the final act picks up significantly, the shift feels jarring and rushed. Key events that should have been impactful felt glossed over, which contributed to the overall lack of interest in the plot. I really wanted to like this book, but its underdeveloped characters and inconsistent pacing make it hard to recommend.
