it is so real in the acknowledgments for Mason to write that Ovid truly just feels like a man and that we simply must regret his trouble and thank him. this felt like a book that saw Ovid as a wanderer, one who could not rest, one writing the same thing over and over, a prophet interned to prophecy forever without any hope of an ending. idk this book makes me think about The Work. how the mythology of the wandering obsessive writer is infinitely more real than the solitary one locked away.
