AM I GETTING JADED FROM THE ROMANCE GENRE ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Rating: 4.5/5, THIS COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN A FIVE, I THINK SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH ME
Spice: 3/5
Recommended for: fans of Secretly Yours
Emotional Investment: I could have bawled, but it only elicited teary eyes
Book Hangover: I kinda wanna read more from this author

Audiobook Comment: another case of a male narrator reading in perpetual bedroom voice, but when he changed characters, his voice was great ðŸ˜
Memorable Imagery: almond croissants, the overlook under the stars
Give Me Butterflies by Jillian Meadows was almost an easy 5/5. Right off the bat, I was laughing and snorting at FMC Millie Oaks's misadventures with MMC Dr. Finn Ashford. Millie (29) is an entomologist at a museum, eyeing for a promotion. She loves board games, books, and sparkling water, and comes from a loving family with a hysterical family group chat. Finn (34) is a grumpy director of the astronomy department at the same museum, who has assumed guardianship over his twin nieces while dealing with the grief of losing his older sister. In this grumpy x sunshine STEM(ish) romance, readers get to witness my dream date - board games, book store, and lots of FOOD - while also navigating deeper issues of emotionally abusive relationships.

Why was this not a five when this was right up my alley? I think it's a me problem, but what if I've peaked in the romance genre and there's nothing better I fell in love with Millie first, but I don't know if I can say I loved Finn as much as her even though on paper, he sounds like an awesome book boyfriend candidate. He's always in Millie's corner, he fell for her first, always takes care of her (ordering her food when she isn't well or even calling her dad to teach him how to make his famous soup) and makes sure she's in charge and prioritizes her happiness. The croissant date he planned? Swoon-worthy. His devotion to Avery and Eloise (his sister's kids) - almost made me cry. Maybe I wanted to feel more of his grief for his older sister, as an older sister to a brother myself. Maybe I wanted more pining or a slower burn? Maybe the fact that I don't like space/astronomy put him at a disadvantage? Or maybe the audiobook narrator that voiced him really worsened things? It started off 5-star worthy and then dropped down a little.
