X-Force, Volume 1: Angels And Demons
by Craig Kyle
While the artwork is spectacular, rendering the blood and the splatterers thereof with similar creepiness and realism, I could not get over how "extreme" and "dark" the story became. Wolverine, X-23, and War Path are hunter/murderers who walk a thin line, man! They may not like the lives they've chosen, but at least there's an evil religious cult to occupy their razor-edged talents. Wasn't the issue of religion-taken-astray handled brilliantly in "God Loves, Man Kills?" And did all of the X-Men's previous villains really just revive with new bodies? I wonder if future installments of this series will just act as an excuse for lots of EDGY sex and violence against straw villains. Spoiler alert: I peeked at volume two, and I'm not reading any more of this series.
