Rawblood by Catriona Ward

I received ‘Rawblood’ from the publisher in an Event in London. However, this does not influence my opinion and review about it.

The gothic, dark, haunted atmosphere of the book called me instantly. Although it is a fairly new novel, it has that old feeling of an old traditional horror novel, and this is something that I have loved from it. I could be in the middle of a summer heat wave reading it, and still feel the chills of the unknown running down my spine.

Rawblood is a coral novel, as it mixes characters and timelines jumping from past to present presenting a very different repertoire of characters and their point of views, all within the same family. I’ve read some reviews saying that this is confusing but in my case, not at all, and with the help of the genealogy at the beginning even better. I just loved how the different characters interacted and how the past become the future. The plot is absolutely cleverly planned and brilliantly executed. The final is astonishing.

The only flaw for me, it was that it slowed down at the middle. Due to having different point of views and stories, I had my favourites and the ones that I was looking forward to read more. Discovering more characters at the middle of the book was a bit of a turn down as I was looking forward to read about other. But they are all so charismatic, and their stories so interesting and intriguing that I was addicted again shortly after.

Definitely recommended for all horror fans!
